Strategic Vision & School Development
Our Visions & Aims
At IncludEd Independent School, we believe that every young person deserves to feel safe, understood, valued and capable of success.
Our vision is rooted in a simple belief: a young person’s past experiences should not define their future.
We understand that many of the young people who join us have experienced barriers to education. These barriers may have affected their confidence, wellbeing, relationships, behaviour, attendance or engagement with learning. We therefore do not simply focus on what a learner cannot currently do. We seek to understand the whole young person and what they need in order to succeed.
This is the foundation of our whole-istic approach to learning.
Our Whole-istic Approach
At IncludEd, we see the whole child.
We recognise that successful learning is about far more than academic achievement. A young person’s ability to learn is influenced by their relationships, experiences, emotional wellbeing, sense of safety, regulation, confidence, interests, strengths and aspirations.
Our whole-istic approach means that we consider the academic, social, emotional, behavioural and developmental needs of every learner. We take time to understand what sits behind a barrier and work alongside each young person to identify what will help them move forward.
We believe that relationships are the foundation for learning.
Through strong, consistent and trusting relationships, we create an environment where learners feel safe enough to be themselves, make mistakes, try again and experience success. Our approach is relational, inclusive and trauma-informed, while maintaining high expectations and clear boundaries.
We do not lower expectations because a learner has experienced barriers.
We remove barriers so that learners can reach high expectations.
RESET
We create the safety, stability and emotional readiness that enable young people to engage.
We recognise that a learner cannot always access learning until they feel safe and regulated. We therefore provide predictable routines, supportive relationships, appropriate environments and personalised strategies that help learners understand and manage their emotions and behaviour
RECONNECT
We support young people to rebuild their connection with themselves, others and education.
For some learners, this may mean rediscovering their confidence. For others, it may mean rebuilding trust, developing positive relationships, improving attendance or experiencing success in learning for the first time in a long time.
We celebrate progress and use it to build momentum.
RISE
We help learners recognise their strengths, develop their knowledge and skills, build independence and believe in what they can achieve.
We want every young person to develop the confidence and ambition to look beyond their current circumstances and towards their future.
Reset. Reconnect. Rise. is therefore more than a phrase. It is the journey we want every learner to experience at IncludEd.
Our Four Core Aims
1. Developing our Staff
We believe that great provision starts with great people.
We invest in our staff through high-quality professional development, collaboration, reflection and ongoing learning. We want every member of our team to have the knowledge, skills, confidence and understanding to meet the individual needs of our learners.
Our staff are expected to model the culture we want our learners to experience: compassionate, consistent, reflective, ambitious and inclusive.
We develop staff who understand that behaviour is communication, relationships matter and every interaction is an opportunity to make a difference
2. Aiming for Excellence
We have high aspirations for every learner, regardless of their starting point, previous experiences or barriers to education.
Excellence at IncludEd is not simply measured through academic outcomes. It is reflected in progress in learning, attendance, behaviour, relationships, confidence, independence, wellbeing and personal development.
We use assessment, evidence, reflection and professional challenge to continually improve our provision.
We celebrate every step forward while continuing to ask:
What is this learner capable of next?
3. A Whole-istic Approach to Learning
Our curriculum and provision are designed around the whole young person.
We provide personalised, flexible and purposeful learning that responds to individual starting points, needs, interests and aspirations.
Alongside academic knowledge and qualifications, we develop communication, emotional regulation, resilience, independence, social skills, confidence and the wider skills needed to participate positively in society.
Our learning environment, curriculum and relationships work together to create the conditions in which young people can thrive.
4. Investing in Futures and Life Beyond IncludEd
Our responsibility extends beyond the time a learner spends with us.
We want every young person to leave IncludEd with the knowledge, qualifications, skills, confidence, resilience and independence they need for their next chapter.
Where appropriate, we support learners to successfully reintegrate into mainstream education. Where this is not the right pathway, we provide a high-quality, ambitious education that offers parity of opportunity and a meaningful pathway towards further education, training, employment and adult life.
We want our learners to leave us not simply asking “What can I do?” but believing: “I can do this.”
Our Culture & Expectations
Our vision is lived through the culture we create every day.
At IncludEd, we want every learner to experience an environment that is safe, nurturing, respectful, ambitious and inclusive.
Our shared expectations are simple:
Be Ready. Be Respectful. Be Safe.
These expectations provide consistency and clarity while allowing us to respond to individual needs.
We understand that some young people will need greater support to meet expectations. Our relational and trauma-informed approach means that we seek to understand behaviour and respond with curiosity, compassion and consistency, while maintaining appropriate boundaries and high expectations.
We believe that belonging comes before achievement. When young people feel known, valued and understood, they are more likely to engage, take risks in their learning and believe in their ability to succeed.
Our Vision in Practice
Our vision is reflected in everything we do. We are committed to:
- Seeing the whole young person, not simply the presenting need.
- Building strong, trusting and respectful relationships.
- Understanding barriers rather than defining learners by them.
- Removing barriers while maintaining high expectations.
- Providing ambitious, personalised and purposeful learning.
- Supporting regulation, wellbeing and emotional development.
- Celebrating progress and recognising individual strengths.
- Developing independence, confidence and resilience.
- Listening to and valuing learner voice.
- Working positively with families, schools and professionals.
- Preparing learners for meaningful and successful futures.
- Creating a community where every young person feels that they belong.
Aligned with the Ofsted Inspection Framework
Our vision is reflected across all aspects of school life and aligns with the key areas of evaluation within the Ofsted inspection framework.
Safeguarding
Keeping every learner safe is our highest priority. We promote a culture where learners feel safe, listened to, respected and able to seek help.
Inclusion
We remove barriers to education and promote equality of opportunity, with particular consideration for learners with SEND, those experiencing disadvantage and those who have experienced barriers to education.
Curriculum and Teaching
We provide an ambitious, broad, balanced and personalised curriculum that responds to individual starting points, needs, strengths, interests and future aspirations.
Achievement
We expect every learner to make meaningful progress academically, personally, socially and developmentally. We use assessment and evidence to identify next steps and ensure learning is purposeful.
Behaviour and Attendance
We promote positive attitudes towards learning, respectful relationships, personal responsibility and readiness to learn. Our approach is relational, restorative and trauma-informed, while maintaining clear expectations and boundaries.
Personal Development and Wellbeing
We develop confidence, resilience, character, independence and the wider personal skills learners need to participate positively in their community and wider society.
We prepare learners for their next steps through careers education, qualifications, personal development and opportunities that develop the skills, knowledge and confidence required for further education, training, employment and adult life.
Leadership and Governance
Strong leadership and effective governance ensure that our vision, values and commitment to continuous improvement remain at the heart of decision-making, with the needs and best interests of learners always at the centre.
Our Commitment
At IncludEd Independent School, we believe in fresh starts, second chances and high expectations.
We know that a young person’s previous experience of education does not have to determine their future.
We will create a school where young people are known, understood, valued and challenged to achieve their potential.
We will provide the relationships, environment, curriculum and support that enable young people to overcome barriers, rebuild confidence and rediscover their connection with learning.
We will celebrate the individual while preparing every learner to participate confidently in the wider world.
And we will never lose sight of the whole person behind the learner.
Because at IncludEd, education is not just about what a young person achieves in school. It is about the person they become and the life they are able to build beyond it.
RESET. RECONNECT. RISE.
See the whole. Remove the barriers. Raise the aspirations.
"Success isn't found in copying what's been done before. It's found in owning your story, leading with heart, and creating something that only you can bring into the world."
